Transwest Ford Henderson 250

A big Yahoo for Sam Berri and Team Margarita finally we put the gremlins back in their cage after a year of frustrating issues that have taken us out of three races this year. Sam and his team finally put it all together and won the big prize. It started out with Sam setting a blistering pace in the time trials to take his fourth Ford pole position trophy out of five races this year, and totaling eight pole positions since Casey has featured the time trials. Thank you Ford for the trophy and money you put up, it gives all the racers something to shoot for, and Casey for going the extra mile to make it so exciting.
Race day came with the excitement it always has, all the racers hoping to have that perfect day. Sam started out first off the line he looked good going through the infield and heading out into the desert. After the first minute the rest of the pack started leaving the line two by two racing each other through the infield trying to claim the next spot behind Sam. These kinds of starts are heart pounding for both the racers and spectators and again we have to commend Casey for creating this kind of excitement. But by the time Sam got to checkpoint two which was about 30 miles out he was starting to add to his lead. Since he was seeing the course for the first time he was being a little conservative. After the first lap he began to pick up the pace. He only had to make one pit stop for this race, and he did it at checkpoint two on the second lap. With team Margarita rising to the occasion, Lou and Alex dumping two can’s of fuel, Annie giving him his chewies, rags and a drink of Gatorade, Kelly and Lois cleaning off the lights and checking tires, all this in about 30 seconds great job guys and girls. Don and Ellen were covering checkpoint one, Bob and Billy D. were covering the main pit, our day went just the way we like it a wave and a little encouragement for Sam to keep up the good work. Sam did have a little issue starting the last lap going through main pit Casey assessed a one minute penalty for going over the 25mph speed limit in the pit, not to make any excuses but Sam's GPS had quit working and he wasn't sure how fast or slow he was going. Even after the one minute penalty Sam was able to finish the race with two minutes and 32 seconds to spare to take First overall and first in class. To cap off the ending of a perfect day of racing. Thank you Goodyear for the flawless performance of your tires absolutely no flats all day, and thanks to all the other sponsors and crewmembers and supporters that help keep us on the track.
