TRANS-WEST FORD 250

HENDERSON

December 2-3, 2011

The place to be for off-road racing fans was Henderson, NV the first weekend of December where Best In The Desert put on the Trans-West Ford 250. Thursday found Sam and Team Margarita at the track for an exciting day of qualifying. Sam had the 21st spot for the drawing, he looked a little slow on the look see lap. Bob told Sam that he needed to pick up the pace for the time trials. The qualifying lap, Sam was 3 seconds ahead of the leader but he came into the infield and got his shifting fork stuck in third gear which compromised his time. Don and Ellen, Sam and Bob went to the hotel bar where Casey announced the line up for the race. Sam wound up with a 17th place to start the race. The town of Henderson opened its Water Street for the Tech and Registration. Don and Ellen pulled the car through Tech with their quad. Lou, Alex and Donald, Kelly and Lois were on hand. Brian arrived when we were taking the car to the main pits. The drivers' meeting was held in the community center. Casey makes the meeting a little more interesting by including the latest Tuba Arts race movie release. It's fun to see race footage of the different race vehicles and especially our Sam Berri!

Race day arrived crisp and cold. Sam was scheduled to race at 12:30 with an exciting infield challenge. He started in the 17th place racing against the Corona Truck - Steve Sourapas which Sam beat in technical infield course, out to the desert Sam charged. He worked his way into 9th place by the finish of the first lap. He fueled up at check point 2 where Lou and Alex, Bob, Kelly and Lois made sure that he didn't lose his 7th place. Sam continued on and made a second fuel stop and main pit for a splash of fuel weren't sure on the fuel mileage with different motor that was being run. Lap 3 no issues except for cold hands. Sam finished 6th overall and 5th in class. Sam would like to thank Good Year once again for tires with no flats in this race. Thanks to all the help of the Berri volunteers.
